“Over the course of my research I’ve grown passionate regarding the issues disabled people face. While thinking about the things within my scope to raise awareness regarding what they face, I came up with an idea to create a flier to put up around school to raise awareness about the support provided at school for disabled people. A large percentage of disabled people don’t even declare themselves as such to be eligible for the support provided. On the flier, I highlighted three different resources. First, the counseling center. The counseling center provides free and confidential services to all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at City College. This is a service that is underutilized and I wanted to spread awareness about its existence. Next, the accessibility center. This is an all encapsulating center for information and resources for people who would benefit from more access, and has many available resources for those with disabilities. Finally, I also added the access to future club, which is a club formed for the purpose of fostering a community among CCNY’s disabled students. Overall, I feel I succeeded in creating a flier to spread awareness about the resources available for disabled students.”
